Algae to Biocrude
US company Sapphire Energy commissioned AMEC as owner's engineer for the design and construction of a commercial-scale algae-to-biocrude facility. The plant is located in New Mexico, USA, and at full scale will produce 100 barrels/day of green crude oil.
Description of facility:
The purpose of this project was to demonstrate the techno-economic feasibility of producing drop-in renewable fuel from algae. AMEC, a parent company of NZ-based Beca AMEC, provided the following services for the design and construction of the algae ponds and processing plant:
- environmental permitting, land-use permitting
- pre-construction study
- civil design
- pre-construction scheduling & estimating
- general construction at-risk scope of facilities
